tenderness

my work often explores sensuality and the manifestation of emotion through the body. this particular conversation focuses on tenderness. sensuality as opposed to sexuality. softness through touch. colors and motifs repeat, such as the turquoise stripes of the sheets and the curls of the hair. intimate bedroom moments are illuminated, embracing and encouraging vulnerability.

this was the first body of work where i experimented with ceramic form through bodily impact. this process deeply resonated with me. clay is inherently a malleable medium, and by embracing the vessels i build, they become a direct reflection of my personal world and emotions. the smaller vessels were shaped by grasping them with my hands, as if i were caressing a lover’s face. the larger pot was hugged by my partner as i held it level with my chest. by treating the vessel as someone loved, tender feelings become impressed upon the pieces.
